A writing and working space near Paris

This Open Call opens on 2 November 2026. From that date, the application form will also become available on this page. Until then, it will not be possible to submit an application.

This residency at Van Doesburghuis is intended for performing arts writers or makers seeking a writing and development space within the context of the French arts scene. Between 4 April and 25 July 2027, the Performing Arts Fund NL offers the opportunity to make use of Van Doesburghuis for one, two or three months to write and stay. The residency provides free accommodation and workspace in Meudon-Paris, as well as a fixed contribution towards travel and living expenses.

Who is the residency intended for?

This residency is open to professional performing artists based in the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. Artists who are enrolled in an educational programme are not eligible to participate. You may apply for the residency as an individual performing arts writer or maker (for example in music, theatre, spoken word, or music theatre).

Residency period

Between 4 April and 25 July 2027, between two and four residents may make successive use of the studio house (not simultaneously), for periods of one, two or three months respectively.

What does the residency offer?

The studio house at Van Doesburghuis offers space for focused work and writing, but does not have a separate studio. As such, this residency is particularly suitable for performing artists who are in the writing or development phase of a (new) work. The house is located in Meudon, on the outskirts of Paris, with an excellent and fast connection to the centre of Paris. The residency therefore offers ample opportunity to attend performances and concerts, and to arrange meetings with relevant organisations and professionals in and around Paris during the stay.

The resident will stay free of charge in the studio house at Van Doesburghuis. In addition, the resident will receive a fixed contribution of €2,000 per month to cover all other expenses, such as (local) travel costs, living expenses, attendance of performances and concerts, and professional visits and meetings.

Residents based in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom will receive an additional contribution of up to €1,000 towards international travel expenses.

Applying for the residency

Apply using the application form. The application form will be open from 2 November, 00:00 Central European Time (CET), until 22 November, 23:59 Central European Time (CET).

For applicants in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, this corresponds to 1 November, 19:00, until 22 November, 18:59 Atlantic Standard Time (AST).

Applications submitted outside this period or through other channels will not be considered.

Assessment and selection

Applications will be assessed in two phases.

In the first phase, applications will be checked to determine whether applicants meet the general eligibility requirements of the Performing Arts Fund NL, the conditions of the open call, and whether the proposed residency is practically feasible within the specific context of Van Doesburghuis. This assessment will be carried out by the coordinator of Van Doesburghuis and a Programme Manager for Internationalisation.

In the second phase, applications will be assessed by an external committee on:

  • the significance of the residency for the applicant’s artistic development;
  • the concreteness of the proposed residency plan;
  • the applicant’s connection and relationship with the French context.

The Internationalisation team of the Performing Arts Fund NL will make the final allocation of residents.

The selected residents will be announced on 2 December.
