21 January 2020
Netherlands-based performing arts professionals (artists and programmers) are invited to join an interdisciplinary research trip to Morocco from 24-28 March 2020. We are now accepting proposals.
For whom: performing artists and programmers
What: cultural exchange between Morocco and the Netherlands
When: 24-28 March 2020 (departure on the evening of 23 March)
Deadline: Monday 10 February 2020

To stimulate the cultural exchange between Morocco and the Netherlands, DutchCulture (initiator), the municipality of Amsterdam, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Performing Arts Fund NL (with its programme Dutch Performing Arts), Fonds voor Cultuurparticipatie and Mondriaan Fund organise an interdisciplinary research trip to Tanger, Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech.

The cultural sector in Morocco continues to strengthen its international ties, due to a number of factors: a younger generation of Moroccan artists and autonomous cultural organisations who are rapidly building and expanding networks; international educational and networking programmes organised by cultural organisations and funds; children of Moroccan immigrants who return to Morocco to develop cultural projects; foreign artists, programmers and curators who relocate to or develop sustainable relationships with Morocco. Currently there is also a heightened interest from the West in African arts and culture scenes.

Goal and programme
The goal of the research trip is to strengthen the cultural collaboration between the Netherlands and Morocco. The trip will be dedicated to getting acquainted with the contemporary cultural landscape, strengthening existing cultural networks and stimulating the formation of sustainable ties and collaborations between the Dutch and Moroccan arts and cultural sector.

The programme consists of visits to museums, ateliers, workshops, theaters, festivals and venues for visual arts, design, music and dance. Some parts of the programme are geared to all disciplines, other parts to specific disciplines. For music, theatre and dance, locations to be visited may include Studio Hiba, Boutlek, Source du Lion, Studio Arts Vivants, l’Uzine, Tabadoul, Spectacles pour Tous, Anfass, Aquarium, Daba theatre.

The trip is organised by performing arts festival On Marche in Marrakech. Besides the collective programmes in aforementioned cities, delegates can also plan their own meetings and visits.
