Les Urbaines

06 December 2019 until 08 December 2019

by: Les Urbaines

Les Urbaines explores emerging aesthetics over the course of a single weekend. By encouraging the experimentation of alternatives to previously established forms, the festival provides an indispensable — and totally free — opportunity to discover around forty different local and international propositions that open the way for new artistic languages. Les Urbaines mixes visual, sound-based and performative forms throughout nearly a dozen different venues in Lausanne, Renens and Chavannes and includes an exhibition at the Espace Arlaud that will run until the 15th of December.

Astrit Ismaili restricts their performers’ mobility and thus transforms their bodies into instruments, adding new sounds to them. In this way the artist explores notions of adaptation, of the surpassing of self and of frontiers, while questioning the possibility of coexistence and freedom within the framework of one’s social environment. Astrit Ismaili unfurls acts of narration around notions of gender, transition and the family. Born in Kosovo, they currently live and work in Amsterdam.

In this singular performance Andrea Zavala Folache gives everything – objects and subjects alike – equal weight. She plays equivocally with her own image while questioning each spectator’s point of view so that they may experience other perspectives. With a background in drawing and painting, the artist, who lives between Madrid and Amsterdam, explores scenic forms using tools drawn from the visual arts. She will also propose a video installation in the mezzanine of the Arsenic, which further develops concepts from Some through images.
